Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This FREE 6-hour training (provided by AMIkids through a grants from the Florida Blue Foundation in association with National Council for Mental Wellbeing and the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration) gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
YMHFA training requires about 8 hours of your time to earn the certification of a Youth Mental Health First Aider. The training is broken down as follows:
- 2.5 hours of self-paced work online to be completed prior to the class date
- 5.5 hours in attendance, online during the time you selected
- 30 minutes or more of self-paced post work including the test to earn your certificate.
